THE ART OF
JOHN CROUSE
Each artwork starts with an idea. I visualize the finished painting which includes light angles, shadows, background, color etc. I then sketch my idea, roughly at first, and slowly progress to a point where I'm satisfied with the initial design. I carefully consider light, balance of shapes, symmetry and placement of details. I then decide on the exact size of the piece, and begin painting with acrylics.
First the underpainting which I like to call "sketching with a paint brush" in subtle colorless tones, followed by many layers and stages of color, intensity and detail.
Finally, and only when I'm satisfied the art work is complete, I sign the piece, catalog it and choose a frame.
I approach every piece as if it were the only one, a true original, so art lovers from new admirers to experienced collectors can rest assured that the time and effort put into each artwork reflects years of experience, observation, and true conviction.
As a self-taught artist I'm confident that my technique and my personal style which I've worked and strived to perfect over the years is truly my own and will stand the test of time as a symbol of my dedication and sense of originality.
All original artworks are hand signed in paint by the artist, varnished with top quality protective finishes, copyright protected, photographed for archiving, and carefully cataloged including; title, description, digital images, any sketches, and numbered using a system unique to this artist's portfolio.
